eating delicious food!

Hello Kittens,
There’s nothing in the world that makes me happier then delicious food! The past few weeks I have gone to eat so many delicious meals and a few that weren’t so good.

he first meal I am gonna talk about it one I made myself, it’s something I make quite often for myself because it’s fast, easy and filling. It is an avocado egg salad on sandwich thins {which is so good when toasted because it gets a crunchy edge which I love} with pepper jack cheese and siracha. When I make a ‘batch’, it’s enough for about two sandwiches which is great so I can have it for lunch twice. There’s a bit lemon juice, a spoonful spicy yellow mustard, a whole avocado, one hard boiled egg, salt and pepper.

his is also a dish I make a lot for dinner because it’s a once skillet dish so it’s very easy to clean up and its full of veggies and meat so I feel just a tiny bit less guilty. I make it when whatever I usually have on hand. In this skillet, there is penne pasta {which doesn’t need to be cooked separate, theres enough liquids to cook it through}, cherry tomatoes, 80/20 ground beef, carrots, italian seasoning, sweet corn, a can of diced tomatoes, half of cup of water and cheese!

hile my cousin was here for a visit we took her out to one of New York’s most well known steakhouses, Peter Luger’s. We went to the Little Neck location, I have been to the Brooklyn location before, because it was easier for us to get to and the service was significantly better then the one in Brooklyn. We got the tomatoes and three pieces of thick cut bacon{$4.50 a piece} to start and for the mail course we got a steak for three {$150}, a steak for one{$50}, a side of creamed spinach {which I think is the best thing there other then the steak & steak sauce} and some german style potatoes. Total was around $300. The steak was tender and juicy and I thought it was worth the money. At the end of the meal they give you these giant chocolate coins, one per person, and they are seriously good too! I made my sister share with me so I could save mine for the next day. This was my sister’s first time at Peter Luger’s and she enjoyed it a lot so I’m glad I got to take her along. I would go back because everything was delicious and the service was great. {Note: I have been there 3x prior to this}

his is crab meat fried rice from this place in Queens, called Plant Love House. I had seen a few of my friends go and they had cute desserts so a friend and I went to go check it out. The food came out in a decent portion and I got decent amount of lump crab meat and we got a free drink for checking in on yelp. However I was extremely disappointed with dessert, I ordered bread pudding and what I got was microwaved bread with asian pudding on the side for dipping. Everything was pretty affordable and the service was great but the restaurant itself was freezing and since I was looking forward to  dessert the most I was really let down. I would definitely come again to try their noodles {what they are known for, other then dessert} but I think next time I will just stick to classic chocolate cake.

astly last night for my lovely friend’s birthday dinner we went to this place called Beauty & Essex, right off Delancey, First off the place is beautiful! The front of the restaurant is an actual pawn shop with cute trinkets. The inside has tall ceilings with amazing crystal chandeliers and peacock feathers on the walls and the whole place looks decadent and gorgeous.  The bathroom offered free champagne and it was kinda weird telling people I drank free bathroom champagne but hey, it was free, who am I to argue? We all got drinks, I got rosé and ordered Lobster Jambalaya, which is not pictured because of poor photo quality {they turned down the lights in the middle of dinner}. What is pictured above is grilled cheese dumplings in a tomato soup, which we all shared and I could’ve have three plates of this stuff. However I did not like my Jambalaya, it was too salty and I did not finish it {even though it was expensive}. This is the type of place where the portions are so small that you order everything they offer just to be full or you eat afterwards at a cheap spot to get full {which is exactly what we did!} and we also got mini donuts. Overall the place was nice, the vibe and atmosphere was what you paid for the food was just an after thought really.

Have you guys eaten anywhere recently so good you couldn’t stop talking about it? Or how about a place that disappointed? Or do you guys have a dish that you just keep going back to?
Until next time~

sightseeing new york.

Hey kittens,

I haven’t written a post in a while because my cousin came to visit from South Korea. So I have been cooking and cleaning and taking her out to show her different places in new york. And this past monday, as you guys might or might now know, the east coast had a massive snow storm and I ventured out into the storm and I think that cold I was avoiding finally caught up with me. We walked down Fifth Ave, SoHo, Columbus Circle, NoHo and Central Park. But I did some shopping and bought some cute things, wish I could’ve done more shopping but I’m happy with what I got. H&M is my go to store especially when they have sales. And I def did some damage at Sephora as well.

This last wednesday we went to see Wicked. For me it was my 4th time and it was still amazing! I loved it so much and my sister, thanks to me, knew every word and left with a huge grin on her face. One of my resolutions this year is to see more shows so I’m hoping that the next one I go to is Lion King. I’ve already seen Phantom of the Opera, Les Mis, and Avenue Q.

My cousin is leaving this week so it will def be nice to get back to a regular schedule. I haven’t been able to work out or stick to my diet at all. And I started classes this week but it just doesn’t feel like it. It’s a change to be going to night classes, there’s no one on campus after dark and everything looks a bit creepy.

What did everyone do this past week? Have you guys seen Wicked? Do you guys recommend any other show?

Review: L’Oreal EverCreme Conditioning Cleanser

Hey Kittens,

Today I wanted to write a review on the  L’Oreal EverCreme Conditioning Cleanser. I recently learned about cleansing conditioners and how it is suppose to be amazing for thick hair so I decided that I needed to give it a try. Even my boyfriend was saying that this might be the miracle hair product I have been praying for. I have very thick medium length hair but it is not straight but not curly either, more close to frizzy and poofy{?} and I tend to get a bit oily after a day or so but this winter with the constant hot and cold my scalp has been a bit dry.

So before I give you my thoughts on the product let me give you a few details. The 8.5oz bottle is very slim and small and runs around $6 bucks. I picked mine up at my drugstore for $8. It has a pump which is nice because I hate fiddling with a cap in the shower however one of the cons about the pump is that is pumps so little product, by little I mean the same amount as my facial moisturizer pump. Also I must add that there are very little details on how to use it, it didn’t seem complicated so without looking into it I just started using it.
Cleansing conditioner is like a glorified 2 in 1 shampoo/conditioner duo but from what I  have read on it, it has a ratio being one part shampoo and two parts conditioner. It smells very strong like coconut or vanilla bean, a sweet smell, so if you don’t like products like that then this will probably not be for you.
I was hoping that this product would be nourishing to my scalp and make my hair soft and luxurious.

Attempt 1: It comes out as a thick cream and I thought since it is a cleansing conditioner then I would just apply like regular conditioner. This was not a good idea. My hair felt clean and I rinsed my hair several times to ensure I got all the product out and I did notice during the rinse that the product does get soapy when mixed with water. The problem was when my hair dried [ I let it air dry] and I felt that my hair was very dry at the ends and greasy at the roots and I just blamed it on not rinsing it thoroughly enough.
Attempt 2: I thought that since my roots were feeling greasy and my ends dry I would wash my hair with the product at the roots first then rinse it out and then do the ends and then rinse that way my roots would get thoroughly rinsed by the end of the shower. This too was a failure, my hair felt the same.
Between attempt 1 and 2 and 3 I did rinse my hair in the shower with just water or used dry shampoo in hopes to relieve the greasiness that I felt but the relief was brief.
So I did some online research and read some reviews so for my third and final attempt: I pumped the product into my hands and rubbed my hands vigorously until the product went from creamy yellow to white then rubbed it into my roots {this was time consuming because the product does not get sudsy}. Rinsed. Then rubbed the product to the bottom half of my hair and left it in for a few mins. Rinsed again. Then before stepping out of the shower I rinsed my hair once again.

Surprise surprise. STILL GREASY!

So after using this product for over two weeks I can confidently say that I do not like this product and I would probably not recommend it to people who have similar hair type as me. If you tend to have oily hair then this conditioner is probably not for you. It doesn’t condition well enough and there is like this thick residue that builds up in the scalp and roots if you use this product back to back. My hair does not look bad or look greasy but from feel alone it was very obvious and I felt self conscience the times I had my hair down but it did solve my dry scalp problem. If you have drier hair and tend not to get too oily then this is probably what you’re looking for. You get very little product for the price and the time spent in the shower to use it makes it a product I won’t be repurchasing.

If you have used this product leave more your thoughts or recommend me something else to try!
note: picture provided came from the internet, not my own picture, and I plan on getting my camera really soon guys so you can have pictures to these reviews and things!

new recipes, job and make up!

Hey Kittens,

This monday was Martin Luther King Day in the United States, most people had off from work and kids had the day off from school. So I spent the day mostly in bed, sleeping and cooking (well what I consider cooking).
For lunch I made Avocado Egg Salad which is a healthier alternative to regular egg salad. I mashed up a ripe avocado instead of using mayonnaise and added a bit of vinegar and mustard to add a kick. For two whole eggs I used one ripe avocado and that was for two servings. And I either put it on a piece of toast or make a sandwich with some siracha.
For dinner I was a teeny tiny bit more adventurous and made Bulgogi Beef Strogonoff. I already had the marinated beef and just wanted to try a different dish and see what would come of it. It was very sweet and savory. Definitely not for everyone and if you don’t like foods that taste a bit different then the ‘traditional’ version then I would not recommend it. When it comes to cooking I kind of ‘wing it’ and hope for the best and thankfully this turned out delicious. Everyone loved it and I had leftovers today. I was a bit heavy on the onions because I don’t eat mushrooms and beef strogonoff is pretty easy considering what makes it tastes like strogonoff is the sour cream/flour that’s added at the end.
{Wish I had taken pictures for you guys but I don’t think the poor kitchen lightening and iPhone quality photos would have done them justice}

Today I started at a new job working with special needs children {I won’t go too into this} but it was a very tiring but short work day.
I met my friend for some lunch and we exchanged Xmas gifts and I kinda went mental in Target. First off let me say how much I love and adore Target because I never leave empty-handed, however that being said for the very same reasons, I hate target! I ended up buying a bunch of foods stuff {yogurt, tarte cherry juice, cheese} for the next week for myself and my sister and I bought some toiletries {toothpaste and wet wipes} and I bought a bunch of make up stuff!
The best part of the day was the gifts! {that sounds awful? well yeah who doesn’t like awesome gifts? NOONE} My friend bought me Kiki’s Delivery Service Artbook which is just beautiful and makes my inside scream and she bought me a movie Wolf Children.

I feel so happy right now, broke but happy! ^^

How did you guys spend your day off? Or what new recipes have you guys tried? Did they turn out amazing and hilarious failures?

three day weekend: movies and tea

Hello kittens,

IT’S A THREE DAY WEEKEND! (for most of us in the united states)
and for the most part I have been trying to relax and just enjoy the last bit of “holiday” before school and work make my life crazy. So I have been watching movies and youtube and just rolling around in bed and hanging with my boyfriend. I have also been trying to fight an oncoming cold so I have had crazy amounts of tea and tylenol. Hopefully it won’t catch.

First movie I watched today was Event Horizon, which is a bit of an “old” film, since it isn’t a recent release. It is about humans who live in space, set in the future, and they go to rescue a ship called ‘Event Horizon’. Of course, the plot makes it seem like a typical horror flick and I was expecting the special effects to be tacky and the acting over the top since this movie is classified as a sci-fi thriller/horror film. I gasped a few times throughout the film and even screamed once. There are a lot of jumpy parts, mainly due to music and the special effects weren’t half bad. The gore wasn’t too overwhelming and the acting was alright. I love love love horror movies, mostly Japanese ones make the top 5 for me, but considering that this movie came out in 1997(!) it was enjoyable to watch and I was surprised a few times. So for me it was pretty good. I would give this a watch if you haven’t already if you like sci-fi movies that are suspenseful and surprising.

Second movie is Despicable Me 2 (2013)! Obviously I am super behind on the times but I was saving this movie for when I wanted a pick me up. It’s just a super cute movie and makes you feel like a kid inside. The minions are cute and funny and I loved that Kristen Wiig was the voice of Lucy and I personally think she’s funny. This is one of those movies you can watch with kids or completely on your own and enjoy 100%.

Third movie is Percy Jackson and the Sea of Monsters. I had read the book and did not like how they introduced new characters and they had changed a lot of the plot to fit into the shortened movie version. A lot of scenes seemed rushed and choppy and I was expecting Tyson to be more of the book version of innocent, awkward, sweet and gigantic & I was expecting Clarrise to be not so pretty and Luke to be more handsome. I was disappointed but it wasn’t a terribly horrible movie. But nothing beats good old imagination kiddos!

What did you guys do this weekend? Watch anything interesting?

regular day.

So today I woke up a bit later then usual so you know I’m rushing around a mad woman. Not that I have anywhere to be.
I had oatmeal with cinnamon and a banana for breakfast with some warm lemon water. Then it’s off to the gym and then meeting a few friends for belated xmas gift exchanges. And I gotta go to my old school and sort out some stuff.
For dinner I am gonna go to a hot pot/shabu shabu buffet! I cant wait it is gonna be so yummy!
Hopefully I’ll get to post some pictures of my day ^^

newyear, newme

Hello kittens!

It’s 2015 and a new year!
This year I have decided will be my best year yet, the past year or so has been a bit of blank space for me. I lost a lot of friends and chose not to take care of myself and started to hate every aspect of myself that I used to love. I think everyone goes through those moments of darkness that seem to never end, but it will and it does. I won’t go too much into detail in that aspect of things because it’s boring and frankly not fun.
Everyone always starts a resolutions list and has a hard time accomplishing them but I think this blog will keep me accountable and I think if I look at it as everyday short term goals then they might stick a bit better. Who knows!

But this year I want to try a bunch of new things a learn and expand my knowledge in knitting and cooking and baking and take better care of myself and work on being healthier and happier.
So from this blog you can expect reviews on products that I try out, classes I go to, things I make or bake, anything I feel like sharing. You will soon find out how obsessed I can become with things.

I guess I should introduce myself. Or do people not do that?

Let me know some of the things you guys wanna accomplish this year or what you are proud of in 2014!
